The Royal Garden series uses Asian plant fibers as its primary material, referencing classification systems and historical fragments from the Royal Botanic archives in the UK. Through handmade papermaking and structural transformation, the work explores the intersection of material processes, institutional memory, and ecological aesthetics.
The series reflects on how plants—once valued for their ornamental or medicinal properties—are redefined as “invasive species” within shifting geopolitical and cultural frameworks. By reworking and reclassifying these materials, the work examines the colonial mechanisms that encode nature, revealing the underlying structures of control, taxonomy, and imperial landscape imagination.
